Golfer’s Elbow Test

This Golfer’s Elbow Test has been applied in the clinic to check the medial epicondylitis of the elbow joint.
This Golfer’s Elbow Test is applied by to therapist when the patient is complaining about the medial side of the elbow joint.
What is the Purpose of the Golfer’s Elbow Test?
- This Golfer’s Elbow test is used to check the medial epicondylitis of the elbow joint / Golfer’s elbow.
- Golfer’s elbow means medial epicondylitis is most occurs in the Golfer’s player.
Clinical Examination of the Golfer’s Elbow Test?
- Findings of the Golfer’s Elbow Test on clinical examination in the clinic include tenderness over the medial epicondyle of the elbow joint & origin of the common flexor muscle.
- If the patient feels pain at the medial side of the elbow it indicates the golfer’s elbow/ medial epicondylitis.
- When the tenderness is presently applied to a provocative special test which is assessed for the medial epicondylitis.
The technique of performance of the Golfer’s Elbow Test:
Passive Technique for the Golfer’s Elbow Test :
- Position of the patient for the test: The patient is in a sitting position or standing position for this test.
- The procedure of Golfer’s Elbow Test: in the first the examiner [ therapist ] palpates the medial epicondyle of the elbow joint & supports the elbow joint with the help of one hand, while the help of the other hand passively supinates the patient’s forearm & fully extends the elbow joint, wrist joint & fingers.
- Interpretation Golfer’s Elbow Test: If the patient feels the sudden pain/discomfort is reproduced along with the medial aspect of the elbow joint in the region of the medial epicondyle of the elbow, in this situation this test is considered to be positive.
Active Technique for the Golfer’s Elbow Test :
- Position of the patient for test: The patient is sitting position for this test.
- The procedure of Golfer’s Elbow Test: the Patient is flex the elbow joint and then turns the hand palm up means forearm supination.
- Then the examiner grasps the patient’s wrist joint & elbow joint, after that attempts to straighten out the elbow joint means forced extension against the patient’s resistance means resisted elbow-wrist joint flexion.
- Interpretation Golfer’s Elbow Test: If the patient feels the sudden pain/discomfort is reproduced along with the medial side of the elbow joint in the region of the medial epicondyle of the elbow joint, in this situation this test is considered to be positive.
Evidence of Golfer’s Elbow Test :
- For the Golfer’s Elbow Test studies are not available for the diagnostic accuracy of the medial epicondylitis test.
