Electrotherapy

The application of electrical energy in healthcare is known as electrotherapy. When referring to a range of medical interventions, including the use of electrical devices like deep brain stimulators to treat neurological diseases, the word “electrotherapy” is used.

The use of electric current to accelerate wound healing has also been particularly mentioned under this name. In addition, a variety of complementary and alternative medical procedures and equipment have been referred to as “electrotherapy” or “electromagnetic therapy.”

Medical uses

Electrotherapy is mainly used in physiotherapy for:

Muscular spasm relaxation prevention
delay of disuse atrophy
local blood circulation
improve muscle training and rehabilitation electrical muscle stimulation is used
Preserving and expanding the range of motion
Treatment of severe and chronic pain, such as diabetic neuropathy
Acute pain following surgery and trauma
Muscle stimulation following surgery to avoid venous thrombosis
Wound healing
Medication administration

Research are still ongoing and new technologies are coming and developing every year in the Healthcare industry.

Uses of Electrotherapy

Musculoskeletal conditions

The use of electrotherapy in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders such as Osteoarthritis, Muscle pain, Joint Pain, Radiating pain, and fibromyalgia.

Electrotherapy modalities such as Short-wave Diathermy, Interferential Therapy (IFC), Trans Cutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS therapy), and Ultrasound are used in the field of Physiotherapy.
